How remote immobilization works

July 6, 2026

Tracking tells you where your stolen car went. Immobilization stops it from going anywhere in the first place. That is a much better outcome, and it is the whole reason remote immobilization exists.

What immobilization means here

Every modern car has a factory immobilizer built into the key and engine electronics. The problem is that thieves have gotten very good at defeating it, mostly by cloning or relaying your key so the car thinks a genuine key is present.

ScorpionTrack immobilization works independently of that factory system. It is a separate layer the thief does not know about and cannot simply bypass with a copied fob. Even if they have beaten the car’s built-in security, they still have to get past yours.

Two ways it stops a theft

There are really two moments where immobilization does its job.

The first is at the start. On Elite, the engine will not start unless a valid driver tag is present. A thief who has relayed your key can unlock and attempt to start the car, but without the tag the engine stays dead. The theft ends in your driveway before it begins.

The second is during a live theft. If a car is taken some other way, immobilization can be applied remotely so the vehicle cannot be driven off again once it stops. Combined with monitored tracking, that means a stolen car can be pinned in place while recovery is arranged.

Safety comes first, always

The obvious question: does this slam the brakes on at 70 mph? No. That would be dangerous and it is not how it works.

Remote immobilization is designed to prevent a stopped vehicle from being restarted or driven away. It is never used to disable a car that is moving in traffic. The point is to strand a thief safely, not to cause a crash. Safety governs how and when it is ever applied.

Prevention beats recovery

Here is the mindset that matters. A tracker that only recovers your car still means your car was stolen. It might come back damaged, stripped, or days later. You still deal with the disruption.

Immobilization changes the game because it stops the theft from succeeding at all. The best stolen vehicle recovery is the one you never need, because the car never actually left. That is why Elite is built around prevention rather than just tracking.

How the monitoring ties in

Immobilization does not work in isolation. It sits alongside driver recognition and 24/7 monitoring. When something is wrong, our Secure Operating Center sees it and contacts you. You are not the one who has to spot the theft and raise the alarm; we come to you. That is the monitored model, and it is what makes the whole system reliable rather than something that depends on you noticing in time.

Which plan has it

Remote immobilization is exclusive to Elite, our top tier. If you want tracking and driver recognition without immobilization, Secure covers that, and Standard gives you solid monitored tracking as an entry point. You can see the full lineup here.
