What is a vehicle tracker and how does it work?

A vehicle tracker is a small hidden device fitted to your car, truck, motorcycle or trailer that reports its position using GPS satellites and the cellular network. ScorpionTrack units link to our Secure Operating Center, so if your vehicle moves without permission we can see it live, follow it and act. It is quiet, always on, and works in the background whether you are driving or parked up overnight.

Do I really need a tracker?

If your vehicle matters to you, yes. Keyless and relay theft now takes seconds and steals the car straight off your driveway. A ScorpionTrack system gives you a monitored line of defense that ordinary alarms and steering locks cannot match. On our Elite tier it can also immobilize the vehicle, so a thief is left with something they simply cannot drive away. For most owners that peace of mind pays for itself the first time it is needed.

How is ScorpionTrack different from a tracker that just sends alerts to my phone?

This is the heart of it. We contact you, you do not have to notice and notify us. Our Secure Operating Center watches your vehicle 24/7 and phones you the moment something is wrong. App-only products like LoJack and RecovR are owner-initiated, meaning you have to spot the theft, file a police report or dial 911, and switch things on yourself. If you are asleep or abroad, those crucial minutes are lost. With ScorpionTrack, people are already working while you catch up.

What is the difference between Scorpion Go, Standard, Secure and Elite?

Scorpion Go is a wire-free battery unit, IP68 rated with up to a three-year battery, for things without permanent power such as trailers, caravans, classics and bikes, monitored if it moves while armed. Standard is hardwired with live tracking, journey history and 24/7 monitored recovery. Secure adds two Automatic Driver Recognition tags plus tow-away, tamper and battery alerts. Elite includes everything in Secure and adds automatic and remote immobilization. All tiers need a subscription.

Which one should I choose?

It depends on the vehicle and how it is used. For a trailer, caravan, classic or motorcycle with no permanent power, choose Scorpion Go. For a daily vehicle you want monitored and recovered, Standard is a solid start. If you want protection against relay and keyless theft, Secure adds driver-recognition tags. Why is there a subscription?

The subscription is what makes the system worth having. It pays for our Secure Operating Center staff who watch your vehicle around the clock, the cellular connection that keeps it reporting, and the recovery work if the worst happens. A tracker with no monitoring behind it is just a dot on a map that nobody is watching. Your subscription means real people are ready to act on your behalf, day or night, every day of the year.

What are Automatic Driver Recognition tags?

They are small wireless tags, supplied in pairs on our Secure and Elite tiers, that the vehicle recognizes as an authorised driver. When the car is driven without a tag present, the system treats it as a likely theft and raises the alarm. This is exactly how we catch relay and keyless attacks, where thieves clone or extend your key signal but never have your tag. It is a simple idea that quietly closes one of the biggest gaps in modern car security.

Can it stop my car being stolen?

Our Elite tier can, and this is where we differ from most of the market. Prevention beats recovery. Elite adds automatic and remote immobilization, so the vehicle can be stopped from being driven off rather than simply tracked after it has gone. LoJack, RecovR and DIY dongles do not immobilize at all and none affect the car's ability to start. With Elite, a thief is left standing next to a car that will not move for them.

Is ScorpionTrack insurance approved?

Yes, ScorpionTrack systems are insurance approved and engineered to the standards insurers look for. Many owners fit one to meet a policy condition on a high-value or specialist vehicle, and some see it reflected in their premium. We have been protecting vehicles since 1973, and our monitored recovery service is designed to satisfy insurers as well as owners. If you need specific paperwork for your policy, tell us the vehicle and we will point you to the right product.

Does it work across the US and when I travel?

Yes. ScorpionTrack uses GPS positioning and the cellular network, so your vehicle is tracked coast to coast across the US wherever there is coverage. Our Secure Operating Center monitors it the same way whether the car is on your driveway or a thousand miles from home. If you regularly cross borders or ship a vehicle, get in touch and we will confirm exactly what coverage applies so there are no surprises when you travel.

What happens if my vehicle is stolen?

You are not left to work it out alone. Our Secure Operating Center sees the unauthorised movement, phones you to confirm, and immediately begins tracking the vehicle live while liaising with police to recover it. On Elite we can go further and immobilize the car so it cannot be driven off in the first place. That is the whole point of a monitored system: while an app-only tracker just pings your phone, we are already acting to get your vehicle back.

Does ScorpionTrack work on motorcycles and scooters?

Yes, and bikes are one of the vehicles it protects best. Scorpion Go is wire-free and IP68 weatherproof, so it hides easily on a motorcycle or scooter with no wiring to find, and our team is watching if it moves while armed. Secure adds Automatic Driver Recognition tags that catch the lift-into-a-van and keyless scooter thefts bikes are targeted with. Every tier is insurance approved and monitored 24/7 by our Secure Operating Center, so if your bike is taken we detect it, call you and work with police to recover it, rather than just pinging your phone. Motorcycle owners usually choose Scorpion Go or Secure.
