Looking for an alternative to Bouncie?

If you have been running a Bouncie in your car and are now thinking about how you would actually get your vehicle back if someone stole it, you are asking the right question. Bouncie is a genuinely good product for what it is designed to do. It is just designed to do a different job than stopping a determined thief.

What Bouncie is, and what it does well

Bouncie is an OBD-II plug-in tracker. It costs around nine dollars a month with no contract, which is refreshingly simple. You plug it into the diagnostic port under the dash, open the app, and you get frequent location updates. It performs well in independent testing for how often it refreshes, so you get a live sense of where the car is. It also includes accident detection and roadside features, which are useful for a household.

For a lot of families that is exactly the right tool. If you want to know where your teenage driver is, keep an eye on a second car, or get a heads up if there has been a collision, Bouncie does that cleanly and cheaply. We are not going to pretend otherwise. It is well reviewed for good reason.

Where it falls short for stolen-vehicle protection

The problem is that theft is a different threat. Bouncie plugs into the OBD-II port, and that port is visible under the dash. A thief who knows what they are looking for can find it, unplug it, and throw it out of the window in a matter of seconds. Once it is on the road behind them, it is tracking a gutter, not your car.

There is a second gap, and it matters more than the first. Bouncie is self-monitored. It pings your phone. If your car is taken at three in the morning while you are asleep, there is no one watching the map and no one calling you. By the time you wake up, notice, and start trying to work out who to call, the vehicle can be a long way away or already inside a container. Bouncie is also locate-only. It cannot immobilize the car, and it has no driver-recognition tags, so it has no defense against relay or keyless theft where the thief clones your key signal and simply drives away.

Why ScorpionTrack is stronger for getting the car back

ScorpionTrack is built around a different promise. The hardware is professionally hidden and hardwired into the vehicle, not hanging off a port under the dash, so it is far harder to find or unplug than an OBD dongle. And you are not the one watching the map. Our 24/7 Secure Operating Center detects the theft and calls you. That is the core difference: someone is actually monitoring, and they coordinate the recovery with the police rather than leaving you to do it from your phone.

For anyone worried about keyless and relay theft, ScorpionTrack Secure adds two driver-recognition tags. If the car moves without a tag on board, that flags as unauthorised, so a cloned key alone does not get the thief a clean escape.

If you want prevention rather than just recovery, ScorpionTrack Elite goes a step further and adds automatic and remote immobilization. Instead of following your stolen car across the map, the aim is that it never leaves in the first place. All of our tiers are professionally fitted and monitored, and they run on a subscription because the monitoring is the point.

The short version

Keep Bouncie in mind if your goal is everyday visibility, a teen driver, or family peace of mind. It is good at that. But if you are protecting a vehicle you genuinely cannot afford to lose, you want something concealed, monitored, and capable of stopping the car, not just showing you where it went. To talk through the right tier for your vehicle, get in touch and we will arrange professional fitting. You can compare the range on our products page.
