Vehicle theft in the US has moved on. Relay attacks copy your key fob from the doorstep, and organized crews can be in and gone before the street wakes up. So the question is not just “will I get my car back”, it is “who is watching while I sleep”. Most trackers on the market have the same quiet flaw: they wait for you to notice.
Most US trackers put the work on you
LoJack is the name everyone remembers. The original was a hidden radio beacon that police could home in on, and for years it was the default. That classic RF system has been wound down in the US, and today “LoJack” is a GPS unit with a phone app sold mainly through dealers. LoJack states plainly that it does not affect the vehicle’s ability to start, so it can help locate a car after the fact but it cannot stop the theft. Recovery still begins with you filing a police report.
RecovR is the newer dealer favorite. It is a battery powered locator hidden in the car, and if your vehicle is taken the process is that you call 911 and switch on Theft Recovery Mode in the app. In other words, nothing happens until you realize the car is gone and reach for your phone. RecovR leans on a headline promise to pay you 5,000 dollars if your car is never recovered within 30 days. That is a payout designed around failure. We would rather get the car back.
DIY trackers like Bouncie, Vyncs, Spytec and the AirTags people drop in the glovebox all share the same limit. They buzz your phone and leave the rest to you. A thief who finds the dongle unplugs it, and an AirTag will warn a thief’s own phone that it is being followed.
Every one of these is owner initiated. You have to notice, then act.
ScorpionTrack calls you
Our Secure Operating Center watches for the theft signal around the clock. If your vehicle moves when it should not, our team contacts you to check whether it is really you, and if it is not, they coordinate the recovery with law enforcement. You do not have to spot it first. You do not have to remember which app to open at two in the morning. That is the difference between a tracker that notifies you and a service that protects you.
Prevention beats recovery
Getting a car back is good. Stopping it from being driven away is better. ScorpionTrack Elite adds automatic and remote immobilization, so the engine will not start without a valid driver tag present, and in a live theft the vehicle can be immobilized remotely. None of LoJack, RecovR or the DIY trackers can do that. They map the car while it is being driven to a container. Elite stops the drive.
The car knows who is authorised
ScorpionTrack Secure and Elite include Automatic Driver Recognition tags. The system knows whether an approved driver is present, so if the car moves without a tag, as it would in a relay or key theft, our center is alerted straight away. It is the single feature that turns tracking into real theft protection, and it is exactly the feature the US competitors leave out.
Choosing your level
- Scorpion Go for anything without permanent power, from trailers to classic weekend cars to a motorcycle GPS tracker on a bike left on the street.
- Standard for hardwired, monitored recovery on everyday vehicles.
- Secure when you want driver tags and protection against keyless theft.
- Elite for the highest level, adding immobilization so the theft is stopped, not just followed.
Whichever level fits, the promise is the same. British engineering, insurance approval, and a team that contacts you rather than waiting for you to notice.
