If you have looked at OnStar for theft protection, you have looked at one of the better answers out there. The catch is not the quality of the service. It is who is allowed to use it. If you drive something other than a GM vehicle, or you want protection that follows you when you change cars, OnStar is not the tool for the job.
What OnStar is and what it does well
OnStar is General Motors’ built-in connected service. On compatible GM vehicles it offers Stolen Vehicle Assistance, and it is a strong feature. It is monitored, so when your vehicle is reported stolen and you have filed a police report, OnStar advisors can locate it and work with law enforcement. On many models it can go further and slow the vehicle down remotely once police have it in sight, which brings a chase to a safer end.
That combination, monitored recovery plus a remote intervention that helps stop the car, is exactly the right idea. It is worth being clear and fair about this: for a GM owner, OnStar is a genuinely good piece of protection, built into the car and backed by a real response team. We are not here to talk you out of it if it fits.
The honest limitation
The limitation is simple and it is not really about features. OnStar is locked to GM vehicles and to a GM subscription. If you drive a Ford, a Toyota, a BMW, a truck, an import, or a high-value car from any other maker, Stolen Vehicle Assistance is not available to you at all. It cannot be added. And if you sell the GM and move to another marque, the protection does not come with you.
So OnStar proves the value of monitored recovery with remote intervention, and then limits that value to a single manufacturer’s showroom. For a large share of drivers, that is the whole problem: the right kind of protection exists, but not for the car on their driveway.
Why ScorpionTrack is the stronger choice for any vehicle
ScorpionTrack takes the same core ideas, monitored recovery and the ability to intervene, and makes them available on any make and model, professionally fitted rather than baked in at one factory.
We contact you. Our Secure Operating Center watches for the theft signal around the clock. If your vehicle moves when it should not, our team calls you to confirm it is a genuine theft, then coordinates recovery with law enforcement. That monitored response is the part of OnStar people value most, and we bring it to vehicles GM’s system will never cover.
We can stop the theft. ScorpionTrack Elite adds automatic and remote immobilization, so the engine will not start without a valid driver tag present, and a live theft can be stopped remotely. It is comparable in spirit to a remote slowdown, but it is not tied to one carmaker’s electronics. It works because we fit it.
We recognize the driver. ScorpionTrack Secure and Elite include two Automatic Driver Recognition tags, so if the car moves without an approved driver near it, as in a relay or keyless theft, the alert is instant. That is protection OnStar does not offer even on GM vehicles.
And because our hardware is hardwired and professionally hidden, it suits high-value cars, imports and mixed fleets where a factory service simply does not exist. It is insurance approved and British engineered, protecting vehicles since 1973. Change your car and the cover stays with the system you own, not the badge on the bonnet.
Choosing your level
- Standard for hardwired, monitored recovery on everyday vehicles.
- Secure for driver tags and protection against keyless theft.
- Elite for the top tier, adding immobilization so the theft is stopped, not just tracked.
Every tier is monitored and includes the cellular link and subscription behind it. There is no online shop, because every system is professionally fitted to your vehicle. See the range on the products page, then get in touch and we will arrange fitting, whatever you drive.
